luna: dragonborn peice
using photoshop
the basic concept for this character is an actions over
words, blue dragonborn fighter, however the challenge I was presented for this piece
was to make the character as reasonably lithe as possible while still allowing
them to have a brutish and intimidating presence.
I began this process by drawing out a basic sketch to find
an appropriate pose for a figure wielding a longsword and a Warhammer, at first
I attempted are more active pose with the focus being movement, however I do
not believe this will bets showcase the character themselves, in addition to
this time was also an issue with this piece as it had to be finished relatively
quickly. another impact that the time limit had was the style in which I would
use as I would not have time to create a piece using my typical process of
creating two sketches consisting of a basic sketch and base sketch followed by
an outline, to deal with this issue I decided to only use the basic and base
sketch, but use the base sketch as the final outline.
the outline that I used for this piece was initially drawn
using a red line so that when the colours had been added the red lines can be
changed to a more appropriate colour, in this case I used a colder and darker
blue to complement the existing colours and work with them rather than pen them
in like it would with a neater black line. the outlining was the defining
process in this piece as it focuses an adapting a rougher style while still
maintaining an appearance this is clear and pleasing.
with the challenging of a lithe dragonborn fighter in which
I was presented with the challenge of making her appear strong and intimidating
without massively bulking out the character in that I had to make her appear
more slight in build while maintaining the natural bulk that is associated with
dragonborns in dungeons and dragons and works associated with it, to achieve
this I used less defined muscles but placed her in a very confrontational pose and
using other features such as the teeth and claws to make her unarmed appearance
still feel threatening.
the chain armour was also an issue as it needed to look more
practical over feminine
